| Here at our farm, we not only love our llamas dearly, we also love our dogs. The dog family has one outdoor dog, a rough coated collie. Pegasus was born with very little hearing but is a smart, alert and loving guy. He could be trained to do so many things if his hearing were normal. But, as it is, he obeys hand signals and is the gentle dog that collies are always portrayed as in story and song. All of his brothers and sisters sold to families that love them and most are house dogs. Pegasus is 5 at this time. Indoors we have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and an English Spring Spaniel. We both absolutely love the spaniel personality. Our Cavaliers were mom and son, Penny and Nickel. We lost Penny to congestive heart failure August 27, 2007. Nickel turned 5 in September and is the dearest little soul imaginable. He appears to be doing well despite the loss of his mom. Jessie, our Springer, turned 2 in September and is Jim's hunting dog. She is exceptionally intelligent, learns fast and is devoted to Jim. She is also calm and gentle with the animals and regularly visits The Big Guns in his run. Guns is totally comfortable with having her there and she has never attempted to chase, jump at or in any way harass him. Our previous dog was a Springer also and, while we loved Danny a lot and he was a tremendous hunter, he had the hyper personality for which Springers are known. So we shopped very carefully when buying Jessie and found her at a nearby breeder. Jessies's mom was very calm and laid back and we were assured that the stud dog was the same. We've never doubted the fellows' word as Jessie is very calm for a young dog. We're pretty sure that being raised with a pair of Cavaliers didn't hurt either. If you come to visit the farm, feel free to ask to meet the little guys. They love company, too. |
